Robert E. “Bob” Lackey, 102, Terre Haute, IN formerly of Oblong, IL passed away on Wednesday December 26, 2018 at Springhill Village, Terre Haute, IN.
Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at Noon Saturday December 29, 2018 at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Oblong American Legion Post #219. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until Noon Saturday October 29, 2018. The family requests that in lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Oblong Oil Field Museum or the Oblong American Legion Post #219 with envelopes at the funeral home or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Bob was born on July 25, 1916, in Crawford County, IL and was the son of Arthur L. and Jenny M. (Scott) Lackey. On October 2, 1938 he married Leah M. Canary who preceded him in death in January of 1989.
Bob was a roustabout and pumper for Mahaska Oil and later for Marathon Oil Company retiring from Marathon in 1979. Bob served in the United States Army during WWII and was a past member of the Oblong Wesleyan Church, Oblong, IL. He was also a member of the Oblong American Legion Post #219 where he served as Commander and Chaplain, Crawford County Civil Defense and Crawford County Police Auxiliary. Bob also enjoyed word search puzzles and vegetable gardening.
He is survived by a son Roy D. Lackey, Terre Haute, IN, two grandsons Marcus A. Lackey, Nashville, TN and Jamison D. Lackey, Effingham, IL, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and a daughter-in-law Nancy Lackey, Highland, IN.
Preceding Bob in death are his parents, wife, two sons James R. Lackey and Gary A. Lackey, four sisters and brothers-in-law Mildred and Emerson Bliss, Wilma and Bill Miller, Mary and Clarence Becktell, Oma Lackey and a daughter-in-law Kathy Henry.
